The active volcano in the west of the country, Ilamatepec provides rich and fertile soil, and a microclimate of dry winters and warm summers in a country dominated with tropical weather.
Located in El Congo, south of Santa Ana and near to the Lake Coatepeque, Finca Serbia was founded in 1930 and coffee has been its primary crop since then. The farm cultivates the coffee under the shade of cedar, oak and balsam trees in order to combat climate change, offering protection from a more intense summer sun.
Finca Serbia’s 80 hectares belong to Fernando Lima and have been in his family for nearly 100 years. Fernando is currently making the 3 year transition to achieving the certificate for organic. The plantation is part of the Rain Forest Alliance and uses bird friendly farming techniques.
