The Gicherori processing mill is located in Kibugu , Embu County, about 120 kilometres
north east of Nairobi, on the south-eastern side of Mount Kenya. Also known as
Kirimari, meaning top of the hill in Kiembu.
The Gicherori processing mill is part of Kibugu Farmers Cooperative Society. Kibugu FCS consists of Kathakwa, Ndunduri, Gikirima. and Ngerwe Factories.
The Factory was established in 1994. The FCS is managed by an elected board of 7 members representing a zone in the 2 wet mills. The Secretary Manager manages the day to day activities of the cooperative with the help of around 20+ permanent members of staff. They hire more than 30 casuals during the peak season. The mill processes coffee from around 1200 smallholders each with around 100-1000 trees.
The carbon footprint from this coffee's journey has been offset twice.
This includes boiling your kettle to brew it.
